The Maduruketiya Piyawara pre-school is scheduled to open in October 2015, firstly to benefit 50 children in the village and more, who come from SOO marginalised families in the Maduruketiya Village. This pre-school is aimed at supporting children, who are forced to dropout of school due to poverty, as an average income of a family is less than Rs. 7000 per month.
Hemas Piyawara will provide best-in-class learning facilities to these children, facilitating pre-school education for children aged from 3 to 5 years, with 2 teachers appointed to carry out pre-school education programmes in both Sinhala and Tamil.
This project is funded by our overseas business partner, DerTouristik from Germany supported by FLY & HELP, a foundation which promotes initiatives in education across the world. In addition government authorities such as Local Councils, Pradeshiya Sabhas, Municipal Councils and the Rural Development Authorities support in managing the schools once they are built.
