After their training, the Piyawara preschool teachers go back with more dignity as they
have recognition at district level to train their peers. The ministry accords them respect
by inviting them as resource personnel for training programmes at ground-level.
Bonds are what make Piyawara special, bonds forged when paths cross and Hemas staff,
ministry officials, Divisional Secretaries, Chief Inspectors of Police of the Women and
Children’s Bureau and current or retired teachers – all know that others are just a call
away, be it an official or personal matter.

These inextricable bonds and friendships have created a big Piyawara family which
pulsates with telephone calls and shares on WhatsApp long after the gatherings are over.
