Kumudini Hettiarachchi is an award-winning senior journalist who
has over the past four decades written extensively on women’s and
children’s issues, social problems and health and environmental
concerns in Sri Lanka.
While working at a respected Sunday newspaper in Sri Lanka, she is also
Editor of the ‘SUNRISE’ magazine for senior citizens and a journalism
trainer.
Among the many awards that Kumudini has won are the inaugural Award
for ‘Outstanding contribution to mental health by a non-medical person’
2022 by the Sri Lanka College of Psychiatrists; Gold in the Media – Print
category at the ‘Top 50 Professional and Career Women Awards’ 2018;
the prestigious ‘Journalist of the Year – 2003’ award of The Editors’ Guild
of Sri Lanka; the Reuter Fellowship 1986-87 under which she spent a
year at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom; and the Dag
Hammarskjold Fellowship 1983 awarded by the United Nations
Correspondents' Association where she covered the UN General
Assembly Sessions that year.
