                                                                  ONE STEP AT A TIME

The mission of ‘Piyawara’ or ‘steps’ is to “nurture young children with good care, in order to provide a solid foundation for a lifelong journey”.

Project Piyawara was launched by the Hemas Group together with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs in 2002, to build an inclusive
society to ensure that no child is left behind.

Working within the framework of Early Childhood Care and Development to promote healthful living, we believe in serving Sri Lanka
through meaningful community outreach and social responsibility projects.

The Piyawara dream is to bring imagination, excitement and curiosity to learning, while imparting knowledge and life-skills to thousands
of children including those in marginalized rural communities, who pass through the doors of our 62 Preschools.

In the wake of this national initiative, other iconic projects have followed. They include the AYATI National Centre for Children with
Disabilities and the ‘Eka Se Salakamu’ campaign focusing on children with Down Syndrome, to empower them to live a dignified life.

While we continue to add more to the long list of preschools which nurture children with love and care, this publication celebrates
                                                                     Piyawara’s 20 anniversary.
